Vessel Content Management System

Vessel was a subscription-based video streaming service where you could get early access to content from your favorite creators. The CMS was an important tool for our content partners and our Content Operations team to upload, edit and manage content. This is where all videos, image assets, channel branding, content tagging, etc. were managed. Redesigning the CMS was the first big project I worked on at Vessel and I was able to work closely with the Content Management, Content Operations and Engineering teams.

Creating an intuitive and efficient tool to power the Vessel platform

The challenge was to redesign the CMS so both creator partners and Vessel Content Ops team could easily upload and manage video, show and channel details. We wanted to make sure navigation was intuitive, meta data was clearly displayed and the video-upload process was streamlined.

The old CMS didn't surface enough meta data, and was hard to tell the state of each channel, show and video.

We wanted to add the most important meta data on each card and design a system where their states (published live, error, processing, etc) were easily scannable.

I designed a color-coded system for each state a piece of content could be in.

The most important meta data is moved to the right of the card, and the color system allows you to scan down the page and quickly see what state a piece of content is in.

We provided creators with 4 image crops for desktop web and portrait and landscape mobile and tablet to ensure the assets would look their best on each device.

I designed a single column page that combined all required fields from the old tabs.

The analytics portal was a product that gave creators insight to how their videos were performing.

After we launched the first version of the CMS, we got feedback from creators that they wanted to see how their content was performing on Vessel. I worked with another designer to design the data visualization for this dashboard view to show the minutes watched, demographic breakdown and more.
